Read John 4:13–14; 8:32; 15:4–10. How (to what) does Christ liken Himself and His living Word? (John 6:63)
Christ speaks about Himself and His living Word-breath and likens both to water—spiritual water needed daily to sustain spiritual life.
Christ’s Words to the Samaritan woman in John 4:13: “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again.” How are these divine Words often misunderstood?
At first reading, Christ might seem to be saying: “Take and drink and you will be forever satisfied and never thirst again.” If you understand Christ’s Words in John 4:13 in light/with Christ’s Words some chapters later, John 8:32, Christ is actually saying this: “If you drink/receive/consume/meditate on my living Word regularly, you will then never again thirst ‘spiritually.’ You will be spiritually satisfied with what you daily drink. You will not search for a different spiritual drink or another flavor.”
